The holiday your training has been waiting for. Rio de Janeiro, curated for Jiu-Jitsu. Legendary academies, training with local black belts, and a Rio de Janeiro you'd never find on your own.

The Program

What's actually included.

If you train, you already carry a piece of Brazil with you. You just haven't been here yet. I'm curating a week that takes you deeper than the usual trip: Cristo, the beaches, the icons, but also a real welcome from the local community, and a stronger connection to the art you train every week.

History & Legacy

A Lesson From a Living Legend

A session with a black belt who helped carry Jiu-Jitsu across the world. Not a seminar. The real history of the art, told by someone who lived it and shaped it.

Rio
The City

Beyond the Mat

Santa Teresa, Lapa, the bars and botecos Cariocas actually go to. The Rio de Janeiro you don't find in a guidebook.

Samba
After Dark

Samba Night

One proper venue. The Rio de Janeiro sound that doesn't translate to a playlist.

Churrasco
Last Night

Goodbye Churrasco

Fire, meat, and the people you spent the week rolling with.

Rodrigo
Behind the trip

Hi, I'm Rodrigo.

I'm Brazilian, based in The Hague, and I've spent the last 10 years organizing over 25 international delegations for governments, investors, and startup ecosystems around the world.

I'm also a BJJ brown belt. And the more I train, the more I see what this art does to people. There's a real connection forming with Brazil, but almost no one gets to go deeper into it. I built Raízes for that. For practitioners who want to connect with the roots of Jiu-Jitsu: the history, the lineage, the culture that makes it more than exercise, while finally ticking off Rio de Janeiro, the city that ends up on every practitioner's bucket list.

So I built the trip I would want: small group, real access, no tourist nonsense. The kind of week you'd want to do with the people you already train with.

Do I need to be a certain belt level?
Nope. White to black, everyone's welcome. Sparring is open mat, so you roll with people at your level.
Can I fly different dates or pick my own hotel?
Totally. There's an official Raízes hotel, the one with the best logistics for everything we've planned, and that's our main pick. But our travel partner works around you: fly earlier, stay longer, different hotel, whatever fits. They handle it all.
Which academies will we train at?
My goal is to train where the art actually started. I'm working to get us a session at Gracie Humaitá, one of the very first academies in the Gracie lineage, plus at least one more of Rio de Janeiro's big, historic teams.

I'm waiting to see how many interested people we'll have to join us, but this is the level I'm aiming for, and if it's not exactly these, it'll be something very close. Reserve your spot, and you'll be the first to know!
Who's the "Jiu-Jitsu legend" for the history session?
What I'm after is a world-class black belt, ideally someone from the Gracie family, to sit with us and talk about the art at the source. The more I train, the more I see Jiu-Jitsu is a philosophy as much as a fight, and I want to learn that from the people who carried it across the world and shaped what it is today. I'll confirm names as the group comes together, but this is the calibre I'm reaching for.
What if I have to cancel?
Full refund up to 90 days out. 50% between 60–90 days. After that, your spot's transferable to another practitioner, and we'll help you find them.
Is Rio de Janeiro safe?
Like any big city: you stay smart, you're fine. The whole point of going with us is you're not wandering. You're in the neighbourhoods locals trust, with Brazilians who know the city.

About Raízes

Where the art
came from.

Raízes BJJ creates immersion programs that bring European practitioners to Rio de Janeiro, the city where Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was born, developed, and turned into a global art form.

Most practitioners around the world train Jiu-Jitsu without ever experiencing where it comes from. Raízes exists to change that, through small groups, real academy access, and a Rio de Janeiro shown the way it should be shown.

Roots

The art has a history, a geography, a lineage.

Depth

Not a tournament trip. An immersion.

Community

Small groups. Real access. No seminars.

Respect

For the art, its founders, and the city.

Train where it began.
Understand why it matters.
